I've gone back to old school BBQ.  I have a charcoal grill now and I found the easiest way to start the lump charcoal is to use a chimney.  A simple tool that only needs a couple of pieces of newspaper to light a load of charcoal and get up to temp within 10 mins.  It may not be a new thing to some nut it was to me.

I go back and forth between the two.  I have a Charbroil Infrared gas grill that I love.  I've tested the temp distribution on it with my IR thermometer gun and from the hottest spot on the grill to the coldest (with all burners set to high) there was only a 2F degree difference.  I like that for when I don't have a lot of time for grilling (which seems to be most of the time).

I also have a Kamado Joe - basically a Big Black Egg.  I use that mostly for smoking big jobs -- things that won't fit on a shelf in my electric smoker.  I'd do some grilling on it, but that will be saved for at some point when I am an empty nester and have the time for some lazy afternoon grilling.  And I do have a chimney starter. 😉
