gramsWhen I posted a video of the Oreo chaffle to YouTube, one of my viewers (KCCat5) suggested I try out this recipe. While it didn’t taste as much like an Oreo as the other chaffe, it was quite a bit easier to make. On top of that, it was delicious — with a flavor that reminded me of a Hostess cupcake or Ho-Ho.
Ingredients
1 large egg, beaten
2 TB dark cocoa powder
2 TB granulated sweetener (I prefer BochaSweet)
1/4 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
1 TB heavy whipping cream
Directions
- Whisk together all ingredients.
- Pour roughly half the batter into a mini waffle maker and cook for 3 minutes or until no steam is coming from the waffle maker.
- Remove to a cooling rack and allow to cool for 5-10 minutes.
- Repeat steps 2 and 3 for a second chaffle.
- For a great dessert sandwich, you can make a frosting of 2 TB cream cheese, 2 TB Swerve confectioners, and 1/4 tsp vanilla extract and spread it between two of these chaffles. You will have enough frosting for 2 “sandwiches”.

- If you make a “Oreo” sandwich with two chaffles and frosting, the macros are as follows: 216 calories, 46g total carbs, 5g net carbs, 17g fat, and 9g protein.
These really are yummy little cakes. It is reminiscent of a hoho or a dingdong hostess cake. Super tasty! Great recipe and it couldn’t be easier. Thank you! ☺️

Yes. Different sweeteners behave differently. Allulose, for example caramelizes well but can keep thinks like cookies from getting crispy.
WOW!!! I just threw this together with some coconut yoghurt and berries for breakfast and it was AMAZING! Not only was it super quick and easy to make but it tasted like I was having a yummy chocolatey treat whilst still staying within my macro limits. This could be my new favourite! Will it make a difference if I use Swerve confectioners instead of the granulated in the chaffel? I’m not really sure I understand how either makes a difference in a recipe . Thanks for the insight, can’t wait to make it!
It will make a difference, both in terms of the texture and the taste. You could always run some granulated swerve in a spice grinder or coffee grinder to get it nice and powdery. That would work, but you want to measure it as the powder (after you grind it) rather than as the granulated before you grind it.

Always granulated unless otherwise specified.

I’m not sure where that number came from. Some things got screwed up when I migrated to a different host. I’ve fixed total carbs. All the other macros were correct. Thanks for catching that for me.

I see it as 18g total carbs. Pretty much all of that comes from the sweetener, but those are all zero net carbs (whether you’re using Swerve or BochaSweet). I’m not sure where you’re seeing 46g.
The 46 total carbs is in the note under the video, which also says 5 net carbs.
Correct. The note under the recipe is if you make an Oreo sandwich, including the frosting filling.
Just made this chocolate cookie last night. It made three cookies so I layered them with sweetened cream cheese and had a triple decker cake. It was wonderful. No eggy flavor. Perfect as a cake could be. I have loved all of your recipes.

That’s if you make a sandwich with them (two chaffles and the cream cheese filling). The VAST majority of those carbs comes from the sweetener and result in zero net carbs.
If the granulated is different than confectioners… how much confectioners would be used instead?
Tho I loved the taste, my batter was very thin, as were the chaffles. Could I add 2-3 tsps of almond flour and make 3?
You could certainly try it. These are a lighter chaffle, but I find if they spend 5-10 minutes on a cooling rack, they stiffen up a bit.

I was also doubtful about the lack of cheese or flour. But these are more cake like than the Oreo recipe with almond flour. Definitely what I prefer for a sweet treat.
Batter was thin but cooked up fine. About 5 minutes in my Dash.
BTW I find most chaffle recipes, including this one actually make 3 chaffles. I am careful to pour just enough as I hate to mess up my Dash. Then I don’t need to worry about cleaning it!

Nope. Two different things. The black cocoa powder really brings the Oreo flavor. Dark cocoa powder gives you something that tastes like a Hostess cupcake.

They sure would. However, you don’t want to freeze these chaffles too long or they get hard. I think if you put ice cream between a couple and then froze them for no more than an hour, it would be pretty close to the consistency of an ice cream sandwich.
I’m a big fan of your site, and of ice cream. I cut off a 3/4″ disk from the top of a pint of Rebel Vanilla ice cream, and slid it between the chaffles. Kept it in the freezer for about an hour, per your suggestion, and this is now the #1 treat in my keto lifestyle. Thanks so much for this and your other recipes and advice. Also, the marscapone filling is creamy and sweet.
Divine! I was a little dubious, I confess, but I had a craving for something sweet and I wanted it to be quick and simple with no leftovers I may be tempted to gorge on. These were perfect! I sandwiched them together with marscapone cheese, to which I had added a few drops of caramel stevia. To die for and a perfect dessert. These are definitely a keeper!
I’ve made this recipe several times, but I substitute the black cocoa powder, so I get that Oreo flavor. I’ve gotten several compliments, including my grandson saying “these are better than Oreos!” Kudos to you and KCCat5.
I just made this with my dash mini bundt pan. It made two, I cooked them for about 4 minutes each. Topped with the frosting in step 5. So delicious. Thank you!
Oh. My. Gosh! Game changer. I’ll never do a mug cake again. Perfect. Every time. My chocolate craving is happy in less than 10 minutes from start to eating. I plug in my Belgian waffle maker, throw together the simple ingredients in one bowl, and pour it all in, as my waffle iron is now hot. In just a few short minutes I have a huge chocolate waffle. Not rubbery. Perfect consistency. Mug cakes require cream. This is moist enough it stands on its own. Thanks for sharing!

Definitely won’t be using BochaSweet it’s $57 on Amazon.ca for a 1 pound bag!! I don’t think so!! I don’t know why it’s so difficult to get proper amounts of sweeteners in Canada and why people trying to rip us off even bother putting them on Amazon for that price? I don’t care how desperate I would be for a sweet treat no way am I paying that for sweetener! Crazy! Oh and btw real black cocoa powder should only have one ingredient cocoa powder , should not have additional ingredients or natural flavourings (which actually can be ashes that’s probably why yours tasted like that….eeewww) I got my black cocoa powder from Flour Confectioners and it’s amazing! Highly recommend.

Can I use just the white of the egg?
I made this recipe alongside another chocolate chaffle recipe that used almond flower, psyllium husk and cheese. I really didn’t expect a chaffle without cheese or almond flour to hold up… however, this recipe was the one I preferred. It’s not as thick and cake-like as the other, but as a sweet treat, this chaffle was just as tasty and easier to whip up with less ingredients! It does firm up as it cools. The batter is thin so don’t overfill the waffle maker as I did—I made a bit of a mess! I’m going to try the 90 second tortilla recipe next! Thank you!
I made the Chocolate Cupcake Chaffle, it made three chaffles. I made 4% cottage cheese ice cream blended with fresh local strawberries, vanilla, 1 TBS Swerve, a capful of real maple syrup.
The next day everything was nicely frozen and I made an ice cream sandwich !!!!

SOOOO good! Made another adding some peanut butter powder into the filling – transforming it into a Reese!
