I recently saw an ad on Facebook by NEOH protein bars. The ad touted that these bars had only 1g net carbs. I don’t typically eat a lot of protein bars, but they are good to have on hand when you need something “on the go”.
As a keto practitioner, the 1g of net carbs immediately grabbed my attention and I bit on the ad to get two NEOH bars for free (I just had to pay the $6 shipping).
The first thing that struck me when I got them in the mail was how small they were. These are easily the smallest protein bars I had ever seen. The next thing that caught our attention was the relatively small amount of protein these bars contain — just 8g.
Further examination of the label indicated that there were 15g of total carbs, though only 1g of net carbs. I knew from experience, we were about to get a lot of alcohol sugar.
The initial bite started off great, very much like a candy bar — but that didn’t last long. Very quickly, the cooling sensation that is common with Xylitol really hit me. But it was when I swallowed the bit that things really took a turn for the worse, as it left a burn sensation in our throats that my son, Connor, described as “a chemical burn”.
I was really hoping we’d like the NEOH bars, as I love supporting start-ups, but I cannot recommend these.

I find this review interesting because I ADORE these bars. I get none of these negatives. As a diabetic on WW and a serious sweet tooth, these were a life saver!

HATE these bars… and generally, I can overlook a lot of “sugar-free flavor funkiness”. These reminded me of some of my mom’s scary 1970’s Figurine diet bars. I only tried the sample pack. Nope, I’m sticking with BuiltBar.
